Ryan Hoyme Fan Club

ryan1I’m a fan of Ryan Hoyme aka the Massage Nerd. I don’t have a foundation to recognize him, so I’m creating my own little virtual fan club on this page and you’re welcome to join me.

Ryan has been a massage therapist since 1997 and a massage instructor since 2000.

He initially started MassageNerd.com to help students who missed class by posting notes and videos and the site kept growing and growing. Today it is the largest massage website on the web with 3,500+ massage videos,10,000+ massage pictures, 4,000+ massage test questions and so much more.

If you’ve ever looked for a massage video on YouTube, you’ve likely seen a  video from the Massage Nerd. His videos (he has over 4,500!) have received more than 161 million views, averaging an incredible 60,000+ views a day! It’s mind boggling, really. More than 40,000 people have subscribed to the Massage Nerd YouTube channel.

He’s extremely generous and is content to stay behind the scenes as he showcases leading educators, movers and shakers, practitioners, and vendors in the massage profession through his videos.

I was lucky enough to get him on the other side of the camera for a video interview for World Massage Conference. It was a rare glimpse into his private life as he sat down and shared some personal history, why his first massage experience was a nightmare, the birth of “the nerd”, his struggle with OCD and his motivations for doing the things he does.

He came into the national spotlight earlier this year. He was seated at the finish line of the Boston Marathon with video camera in hand to catch Tom  Heidenberger of Bon Vital and Les Sweeney of ABMP cross the finish line in a fundraising effort for the Massage Therapy Foundation. It was a case of being in the wrong place and the wrong time and he caught the explosions, that happened directly across the street, on video. The video was broadcast through news agencies around the world.

His contributions and accomplishments in the massage field are diverse and numerous. He was the recipient of the 2011 Innovation Award at the American Massage Conference and was inducted into the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame in 2012.

He was a featured presenter for the World Massage Conference and blogs regularly for Massage Magazine. His book “Manual for Massage Therapy Educators” which he co-authored with Laura Allen was released in 2012. Currently he works as a social media consultant for Bon Vital and Core Products.
