The BIG BodyworkBiz Retirement Sale – Time Sensitive

BodyworkBiz will be closing its doors as of December 31, 2014. I want to give all my loyal subscribers and customers a chance to get anything they’ve always wanted to get before it all goes away.

Better yet, you can have pretty much everything that I’ve ever published for just $199. Yes, I mean everything: e-courses, videos, webinars, e-books, presentation kit, newsletters, etc. for just one payment of $199. You get everything you see on this page, which if bought individually would cost you over a couple thousand dollars.

You’ll have online access to all these resources for at least one full year (and I may extend that even further). Much of the material can be downloaded and you can get email delivery of many of the e-courses.

Just a caveat: I’m resurrecting a few courses that I’ve taken off the site previously and I haven’t updated them. So you’re getting them as is. You may come across some broken links, missing images, etc. that I won’t be fixing at this point. Also with a 90%+ discount, I won’t be offering my usual money back guarantees.

So scroll through the page and check out everything you’ll get for just $199. And take action quickly. This offer expires December 31, 2014. We’re all savvy enough to know that leaving it ’til later usually means never. And you don’t want to be kicking yourself for missing this opportunity. Enjoy!

Conversation Advice When Networking…

people talking

“When you are at a party and are thrust into conversation with someone, see how long you can hold off before talking about what they do for a living. And when that painful lull arrives, be the master of it. I have come to revel in that agonizing first pause, because I know that I can push a conversation through. Just ask the other person what they do, and right after they tell you, say: “Wow. That sounds hard.”

“Because nearly everyone in the world believes their job to be difficult. I once went to a party and met a very beautiful woman whose job was to help celebrities wear Harry Winston jewelry. I could tell that she was disappointed to be introduced to this rumpled giant in an off-brand shirt, but when I told her that her job sounded difficult to me she brightened and spoke for 30 straight minutes about sapphires and Jessica Simpson. She kept touching me as she talked. I forgave her for that. I didn’t reveal a single detail about myself, including my name. Eventually someone pulled me back into the party. The celebrity jewelry coordinator smiled and grabbed my hand and said, “I like you!” She seemed so relieved to have unburdened herself. I counted it as a great accomplishment. Maybe a hundred times since I’ve said, “wow, that sounds hard” to a stranger, always to great effect. I stay home with my kids and have no life left to me, so take this party trick, my gift to you.”

— Paul Ford, “How to Be Polite

How to Follow Your Bliss

“A passion is a thing you enjoy doing. For me that is telling, experiencing and analysing stories. For you, it may be anything.

A value, in the sense that I am using the term, is a personal standard of behavior. Which is why things like “integrity” or “courage” mean a great many things to a great many people.

It is in aligning your personal passions with your personal values that you find your bliss; i.e. fulfillment.

Example: a person who is passionate about and talented at writing may take a job at an advertising agency in order to “do what they love for a living”. Only to find out that the company they are working for has few if any overlapping values with them. As a result, they hate their job–even though they are “doing what they love”.

So when I say, follow your bliss, I’m talking about doing what you are passionate about in a way that empowers you to live out your deepest held values. Anything else leads to a crummy experience for you and art or expression that’s lost its heart. Which is important on more than a personal level, since your community (i.e. your readers/customers/etc.) expect to find resonance with you and your brand. Which is impossible if you don’t really believe in what you’re doing and the values you supposedly share with them.”

How To Do a Client Profile – Part 1

“If you want people to find you interesting, be interested in them.”

I don’t remember where I heard that quote (or something like it). Maybe I’m just making it up (probably not). But in any case, nothing could be more true.

There’s nothing that people like more than themselves. And the more focus and attention you place on someone, the more they are going to love you.

And I don’t mean just buttering someone up for the sake of getting what you want. I really mean being seriously interested in other people and acknowledging them. When you do that sincerely, the side effects of this are incredible. Those people will love you and they will sing your praises to others.

So why not give people the acknowledgement they deserve and showcase them.

I ran Massage Therapy Radio for years with my friends for no other reason than being interested in the leaders and educators in our profession. More recently, after some conversations with Scott Dartnall about the really incredible people we’ve met through our work, I set up the Ryan Hoyme aka Massage Nerd Fan Club page on my blog. It took me a half a day and I paid a designer to create some images for me, but I loved doing it.

Massage Nerd Fan Club

I love the nerd. He’s super interesting and one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

Then co-incidentally this came into my inbox this morning…

massage book profile

A great little therapist profile from Massage Book. They are acknowledging their customers.

I’ve also recognize Fans on my Facebook Page…

Fan-acknowledgement

I even bought a boatload of trophies to give away to someone else’s blogging challenge….

bad-ass-blogging-trophy

Is this self serving?

I guess it depends how cynical you are.

Some cynics have accused me of showboating and being opportunistic. It’s easy to be a critic when your not busy carrying armfuls of trophies to the post office. But in all honesty, there are better ways I can spend my time and money if I’m doing it strictly as a marketing ploy. I’m doing it because it’s fun and I derive a great deal of pleasure from it. Look at Ele Sue Dukes with her “bad ass blogging trophy”. Look how happy she is! I think I made her day and it makes me smile.

I think you should be interested in people and acknowledge them because you really are genuinely interested, but like I’ve stated, there are side effects to this. And you’re not dirty or evil if you acknowledge that at least a little of the love you put out in the world may come back to you.

But this is a marketing blog, so the question is how does this apply to your massage practice?

Stay tuned for Part 2 and I’ll give you the scoop….

The Only Source of Knowledge…

I see massage business coaches and self-proclaimed gurus popping up like dandelions in the massage profession. Most of these people are relatively new to the industry and it makes me wonder how important experience is in a person’s ability to deliver value to their customers. Is someone who has been in the profession for a few years qualified or capable of assisting others with their massage practices?

I’m close to two and a half decades in this profession and in that time have seen countless “experts”, most well-intentioned, come and go like waves on a beach. They don’t have the knowledge to be successful in their own businesses, let alone to advise their colleagues.

They borrow liberally from people like myself that have experience and that can translate the lessons they’ve learned into successful businesses. But fundamentally, they don’t really understand what it really takes to make a go of it. They lack the “in the trenches” experience.

So while I don’t necessarily agree with Albert wholeheartedly, I have to say that experience is a vital piece of knowledge. And if you turn to someone for advice in your practice, make absolutely sure that they’ve “been there and done that.”
